Is It Later Than We Think?
By
Dr. Dwight D. Garrett

Matthew 24:42
“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”

I once read about a sundial somewhere on which was inscribed the cryptic message,  “It is later than you think.”  I’ve heard it said that travelers would often pause to meditate on the meaning of that phrase.  The author of that message undoubtedly wanted to remind others of the shortness and uncertainty of life.

This has caused me to pause and consider the authors meaning behind that message as well.  So here is “My Take” on the same message:

We as Christians have our very own sundial---The Word of God.  From Genesis through Revelation it too bears the warning:  “It is later than you think.”  I am reminded of what Paul wrote to the Christians of his day in, Romans 13:11-12  “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

Therefore, we need to learn to live each day as though it were our last because---someday it very well, may be.  Could our “last day” be “Today”, and could it be that as of this very moment:

It is later than we think?

Matthew 24:44
“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

God Bless!
